Whilst most of the Internet has been baking in summer sun for the last few months, us lucky folk down-under have been enjoying the thick duvets and warm fireplaces of winter. But not for too long - Earth's funky wobble around the celestial plane eventually brings us spring, and what better way to mark the occasion than with a outdoor trance party deep in the Wellington hills.

Lots of live dub and electronica early on, a beautiful feed of spit roast ed pigs laid on for everyone, and some stonking psy until I've no idea when - probably well into Sunday afternoon.

Two of the live acts, Anestasia and Axis of weasel, played audio-visual sets, and I mixed up a 6 hour video set till the daylight took over the screen

Music lineup (from psydj.com)

6:00-7:00 kia
7:00-8:00 sos project
8:00-9:00 diawata
9:00-10:00 beatnick
10:00-11:00 anestasia
11:00-12:00 axes of weasle
12:00-1:00 grouch
1:00-2:00 izaak
2:00-3:00 repete
3:00-4:30 cusp
4:30-6:00 couch/pookidoll
6:00-7:00 maia

Photos and video hopefully to follow.Yetimonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01968617492058109294noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15777300.post-1155353725792049702006-08-12T15:10:00.000+12:002006-08-12T16:55:37.386+12:00Personal fabrication in use in small communities worldwide
Audio from a presentation by Neil Gershenfeld from MIT's Center for Bits and Atoms. They've been building US$20,000 fabrication plants in small communities around the world, enabling them to design and produce highly complex devices for a couple of dollars a piece.

Edge also has an article on the project.Yetimonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01968617492058109294noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15777300.post-1134981110472411782005-12-19T20:48:00.000+13:002007-07-24T00:13:19.075+12:00Touch control surface for VJing, mixing and lighting

This is the Lemur - a programmable touchscreen, control surface designed specifically for VJing, audio sequencing, mixing and lighting. JazzMutant have built a very powerful and flexible control interface, that can also be networked. Setting up a few of these in a party could be interesting - the DJ, VJ, lampy and sound engineer could all interact with each other, sharing cues or even controlling each other's systems.

...now hook these into the Internet along with some streaming audio and video feeds, and you could potentially mix and interact with parties anywhere on the globe.

For now however, I'd be happy just having a play with one of these in the flesh. :)

Yetimonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01968617492058109294noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15777300.post-1134976824552724842005-12-19T20:10:00.000+13:002005-12-19T20:33:06.390+13:00Photos of Smoke

In a similar vein to the fractal flames of Electric Sheep come fluid forms of smoke, photographed and processed to stunning result.Yetimonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01968617492058109294noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15777300.post-1124962470357892902005-08-25T19:26:00.000+12:002005-08-25T22:00:50.796+12:00The Sheep shall inheret the earth
Electric Sheep is a windows, mac and linux screensaver that downloads and plays highly complex and very beautiful fractal animations (sheep).

Each animation is based on a genetic algorithum - sheep breed and mutate with each generation, and new sheep pop up every day or so. We humans are able to influence the evolution of this artificial species, by voting for the best or worst sheep. The better looking sheep breed and mutate, "hence the flock evolves to please its global audience."

The animations loop seamlessly, and just when you've become transfixed by one, it smoothly morphs into another sheep.

As more people run the screen saver, the sheep have more computing power to graze on. Over the last year or so they have grown in resolution, and have become more colourful and intricate.

The software is open source, and the sheep can be freely used under the creative commons licence (hence they also make great VJ material).Yetimonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01968617492058109294noreply@blogger.com0
