Take prisms, lenses and mirros from a dead LCD projector, add a suitable light source, some playing with angles and distances, and you'll have yourself a large palette of colours with which to play.

The prisms refract and reflect different wavelengths of light, dependant on the angle of incidence. Rotating each prism results in a smooth transition between colours, a point that in my mind cries out for the construction of an elaborate clockwork mechanism that might reign some level of control over this phenomenon.

Time to study some kinematic models for ideas in suitable mechanisms.

Is this of your making, or just something cool you found? If it's #1, I can't wait to see it when we come over in Sept.

If it's from somewhere else, when ya building one? :)

That is a most excellent photo!
And yes, that's his own doing. This is what he gets up to when he disappears into the study each night!
