Next gig: "Apropos of Nothing" release party @Burgundy Room, Friday 29th Aug

While You Were Sleeping and Angry Rabbit are putting on a CD release party at Bodega (downstairs in the Burgundy Room) this Friday, and I'll be adding a little video madness of my own into the mix. $10 on the door, or $20 gets you in with a copy of Apropos of Nothing. Kicks off around 10 o'clock.

Very tasty and eclectic kiwi electronica from Jet Jaguar (MP3s),
Malty Media (MP3s), Group Five (MySpace) and Panoramica (MP3s).

Take prisms, lenses and mirros from a dead LCD projector, add a suitable light source, some playing with angles and distances, and you'll have yourself a large palette of colours with which to play.

The prisms refract and reflect different wavelengths of light, dependant on the angle of incidence. Rotating each prism results in a smooth transition between colours, a point that in my mind cries out for the construction of an elaborate clockwork mechanism that might reign some level of control over this phenomenon.

Time to study some kinematic models for ideas in suitable mechanisms.

Progress. Slow progress, but progress nonetheless

Plans are afoot for a most unusual contraption - an "Ethereal Enlightener". Based upon the spectrum-splitting properties of optical prisms, this device will both illuminate one's surroundings and communicate the condition of any meta data.

A beautifully psychedelic 33rd birthday

Gosh - almost a third of a century :)

It's been quite a nice week, I must say. I turned 33, Pip and I gorged ourselves on fantastic Mexican, business has taken a positive step forward with the appointment of a new director. and I played a very enjoyable gig at the San Francisco Bath House.

Psychedelic Synthesis : Wodger Want (AUS), RePete (Cosmic Conspiracy Records) and Ristofunk (Alkaloid Productions), with support from Filthy Tomo and Shazi. VJs Yetimon and Gene.

Very tasty proggy and psychedelic trance - a big thank you to the DJs for some fine grooves to play to, and much karma to Sammy for putting on such a good party.

Jazzmutant has a new control surface - Dexter

Dexter has a larger touch screen than the Lemur, but not (yet) customisable. Current software only seems to support audio applications, but maybe we'll see support for custom layouts and controls at some point down the line. I don't even want to think about how much this might cost.

My new laptop - on its way!

I'm getting a new neural interface to the Internet this weekend.

Ahh the fridge. Always there for me and my hardware.

My new project

I stumbled across a garage sale in town on Saturday, which included a collection of old rotary dial telephones, and some chunky old fans. I picked up this heavy specimen, and proceeded to spend the afternoon taking it to pieces.

A project like this needs a good beer, and the big heavy bombardier pint was just the brew.

This was a fan that was built to last forever. A heavy, cast metal body that dismantles easily, brass resivouirs for axil grease and access holes for oil droppers.

Lots of nice brass gogs, gears and slidy bits, and a few steampunk/biotech casemod ideas start floating around in some unused part of brain.

Some big chunky solenoids (even more useful if I can get them out of the metal frame in one piece).

The osciliating mechanics revealed. Big smile when I saw this.

Might be time to break out the Google Sketchup tutorials.
